Netflix recently developed Hermes, a proficiency test for captions translators. The goal? Find subtitle translators who understand the nuances of the English language.
The Hermes test provides a good indication of a candidate’s skill level, enabling Netflix to match high-quality translators with individual projects. A year after it launched around 500,000 had taken the test.HERMES tests applicants on their ability to understand English, identify linguistic and technical errors and translate idioms into target languages.
